“At the very basic level breath is the foundation for life. A general rule of thumb is that humans can go for about three weeks without food, three days without water, and three minutes without oxygen. not only is our breath essential to keeping us alive, it is also the key practice for modern-day wellness. it is beneficial to our overall health, resilience, and personal and collective growth.” — Ashley Neese

BREATHE

Breathwork, or pranayama in the more traditional teachings, is at the most basic level, a study of our own physiology, overlayed with intention and a specific breathing pattern, often in a particular sequence.  Breathwork put simply, is breathing practiced with mindfulness + intention, in order to reach a specific outcome, giving us the opportunity to control and change our state within minutes, making it, the optimal tool for busy Modern Lives.

“Breath is life, and life is rhythm.  Without breathing there could be no life on earth.  Man, the higher and lower animals, plant life, all depend on air for existence.  Breathing is the most important of the bodily functions, all else being dependent on it.  Man can go without food for days, or even weeks, but in order to survive he can only go without breath for a few minutes.”  - Margrit Segesman

breathwork

In short,  breathwork  offers us a system of control.  A foundational tool that we carry with us at all times, one that with the knowledge and understanding, allows us to consciously impact our state, (not unlike driving a car once you know how to change the gears).  This ability to change our physiology to a desired outcome, whether it’s to induce calm, relaxation or create energy in the body, makes it an ideal antidote for the stresses of Modern Living.

Breathwork offers both an immediate impact, as well as long term benefits, if practiced on repeat and can be used to strengthen your nervous system, support digestion, assist detoxification and fundamentally, allow you to breathe a little deeper and instil calm into your days.

Breathwork is the closest thing to

a magic pill that we have

Practiced for centuries across many religions, countries and belief systems, breathwork is fast becoming more widely practiced today, due to the science and research now standing behind it, showing the positive impact we can have on our physiology if we breathe correctly, as well as the damage to our health + wellbeing if we don’t.  There is a real need, due to the increasing demands of our busy modern lifestyles to have access to tools that help alleviate some of the stress and pressure that we all now experience day to day.

My classes are a mix of both practice and theory, as I truly believe that without an understanding of why, you are not likely to keep any habit or practice on repeat and my intention is always to support you in making longterm, meaningful change.

meditation

We do so much, we run so quickly, the situation is difficult, and many people say, “Don’t just sit there, do something.” But doing more things may make the situation worse. So you should say, “Don’t just do something, sit there.” Sit there, stop, be yourself first, and begin from there. - Deepak Chopra

Meditation supports us in dealing with day to day stresses and doctors all over the world are now recommending it as a way to calm the nervous system and develop better mental health.

A form of mental training, meditation is an intentional practice focused on a specific anchor to increase calmness, concentration, awareness, and emotional balance, as well as being a tool that’s supportive of mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing.

Meditation offers a much needed pause amid the hustle of Modern Living, an opportunity to turn inward, drop external responsibilities, gather your energy back in and reset, not to mention developing a deeper relationship with yourself.

At the base level, meditation induces relaxation, releases muscle tension, slows breathing, drops blood pressure and heart rate, reduces the production of stress hormones, can alleviate chronic pain, strengthens the immune system and slows brain waves to show deep relaxation.  Over time, it also changes our physiology, creating new neural pathways, improving how we handle and react to stress, how we process information and has been linked to longevity and brain health as we age.
